Neighborhood Revitalization Coalition

NRCFinalLOGO.png

“The Neighborhood Revitalization Coalition (NRC), founded by Carla Lewis Miles and the Greater Duval Neighborhood Association, began as an organized vehicle for communication between organizations and key members of the Gainesville community. This meeting space allowed community partners to collaborate on their projects, share resources, and build relationships amongst each other which fostered social and economic development in East Gainesville. As the body of participants grew and developed, more formal means of securing political and financial resources became necessary, but the founding members did not want to disband the NRC for the positive impact it had on the community. Instead, leadership of the NRC transitioned to the student sector with the goal of building positive and reliable relationships between students, university systems (UF and Santa Fe), and Gainesville community organizations.”

-Madison Cordle

I had the honor of joining the Neighborhood Revitalization Coalition at the beginning of 2023, where I was brought on as the Director of Engagement, by Madison Cordle and Angela Han.

As a team we focused developed the organization in the following areas:

  • Hosted monthly GBM’s to where local Nonprofits can express their volunteer needs and connect with students from UF and Santa Fe College

  • Worked with graphic design artist, Elyza Navarro, to establish design language of the NRC and preliminary logos (shown to the right)

  • Grew social media presence for the NRC

  • Started newsletter to share local opportunity volunteer opportunities for students

As Director of Engagement I focused developing the organization in the following areas:

  • Writing Path to Purpose grant application to focus on Marketing and Outreach

  • Connecting with civic engagement chairs of student organizations to establish partnerships with the NRC

  • Establishing email list of civic minded students to connect them with local nonprofits in the future

Upcoming Objectives:

I will be continuing my role as the Director of Engagement throughout the next year along with Madi Cordle. My work will entail growing recognition of the Neighborhood Revitalization brand within the University of Florida and Santa Fe College spheres. Our first mechanism to do this is by taking part in monthly tabling sessions at each campus, where we will be explaining the mission of the NRC to students, handing out branded informational flyers and stickers, and sharing the NRC newsletter. I will also be focusing on deepening the NRC’s relationship with existing student organizations (such as the Leadership Development Program (LDP), Enactus, and the Path to Purpose Fellowship) and expanding our network through tailored informational sessions for service minded or specialized student organizations.
